2012 Waterball Tournament

wat•er•ball n. : a competition in which two teams try to move an empty keg over a certain point by shooting water at it from a fire hose.

Teams may consist of 3 to 5 people, who must be 18 or older.

This month the Hopkins Area Jaycees will be having a Thirsty Thursday Social on April 26th starting at 5:30pm.

This month we will be having our social at the Gold Nugget Tavern and Grill in Minnetonka.

!Please take this opportunity to come out and socialize with fellow Jaycees and even potential Jaycees. Please feel free to bring that potential member with and get them exposed to other members.

Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for kids

Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run (PHR) is a FREE, 1-day event for boys and girls ages 7-14* that is simple to host. Boys and girls compete separately and participants have the opportunity to compete in four levels of competition including Locals, Sectionals, Team Championships and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game. We will be holding the annual Pitch, Hit and Run competition Saturday, May 5 at Maetzold Field from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration will start at 11 and last until 2 p.m (with events running from approximately 11:30-3). The plan, to maximize participation, is to let kids participate as they arrive at Maetzold. Unfortunately, Field 3 is being renovated, so we will be using the soccer field for the hitting and running portions of the event. The Pitching portion will be on the practice mounds (bullpen) behind the left-centerfield fence on Field 2.

After registration, participants will be directed to the pitching, then be directed over to the North side of the soccer field for hitting then finish up with the timed run on the south side of the field.

Here’s the ideal number of volunteers we would like to have:

Registration and Scoring Calculation: 2 slots

Pitching: 1-2 slot

Hitting: 3-4 slots

Running: 1-2 slots

ID Competitions Workshop

The Hopkins Area Jaycees wish to cordially invite you to participate in an ID Competitions Workshop on 5/6/12. Who: Any current or prospective member interested in learning more about competitions. When: May 6th from 10am-2pm

Cost: $5 to cover the cost of food.

What: The workshop will include Speak-Up, Write-Up, and Debate.

Fun at Lake Minnetonka Care Center

Please join us this month as we visit our friends at the Lake Minnetonka Care Center. This month we will be creating May Day baskets with the residents. If you have yet to join us at LMCC, we highly encourage you to come out; it is a very rewarding experience.

Time: 7pm

We will be meeting at the Hopkins Hall (5 7th Ave N, Hopkins) at 6:30pm for those wishing to ride together. If you would like to meet us there, please contact Amanda Nadeau for questions.

Bowling with the Bunny

The Hopkins Area Jaycees in partnership with Tuttle’s Bowling Bar and Grill will be hosting our annual Bowling with the Bunny event on Saturday, April 7 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Registration will begin at 11:30am. This is a free event for children ages 3 – 9. Children will get time to bowl with the Bunny and enjoy an afternoon of fun!

You must pre-register for this event by Thursday, March 29.

Please call Brenda at 763-427-6370 to register. Leave your name, the number of spots reserving, the names and ages of the children and a phone number you can be reached at.

This event is open to the first 60 children to register. Please do not call the bowling alley for information.

Feed My Starving Children

We registered our chapter to pack meals with Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit organization devoted to feeding hungry children. We will hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, which will then be shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference!

Date: Monday, March 19, 2012

Time: 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Site: 18738 Lake Drive East, Chanhassen, MN 55317

Each volunteer in our group will pack approximately 1 box of food which amounts to approximately 216 meals. That’s enough meals for 7 children in a single month. Since there is a cost associated with packing meals ($52/box), we ask that we all consider making a donation to this wonderful cause. Amanda Nadeau will have a donation jar on hand at our March General Membership meeting.

If you are interested in taking part in packing meals, we ask that you please RSVP to Amanda Nadeau by Monday, March 5, 2012. It is crucial that Feed My Starving Children has a head count from us, so we need to make sure to report an official number of volunteers.

As the date gets closer further information will be sent to those who RSVP.
